Where is all the green grass gone ,we flew for hours looking at the sandy landscape only to find a garden of Eden in Carnarvon.
What with Snapper, Prawns, Cream Sponges,Banana cake,Free capachino's and chocolate sponge. All this has had Rod,Steve and myself more than a bit overindulged.
Steve & Kerry. More air in the push bike tyres next week Steve !
Carnarvon is a hidden oasis in the desert and it was a real eye opener to listen to the challenges of the people in northern WA.
Over the 2 day school we learnt just like other producers they have their own challenges yet the participants gain a glimpse of the fact they hold the answers right there.
When we are faced with a challenge or problem it can be easy to look outside for the answer or even worse just procratinate :
The govt should .......
People should pay more for red meat
You can't trust anybody
It hasn't rained for ........
No matter what challenge we all face, the answer is within, when we realise that and start to communicate with a proactive outlook with others anything is possible. After the 2 day KLR school the group held a workshop with all the major players in the beef industry in WA.
Annastasia, Jodie, Chris and Alex discuss Challenges at KLR School
This has opened up lines of understanding and communication in the region which may just be the key to future prosperity for the people in northern WA.
Thanks to Justine and the crew at the Aboriginal & Heratige Centre in Carnarvon, Thanks to every one who participated in the KLR school at Carnarvon.
KLR Marketing School day 1 Carnarvon WA - well I found internet after having to use my phone this morning.
We have a group of 30 people attending the KLR Marketing school in Carnarvon, including several people from the aboriginal community stations.
There are certainly plenty of challenges running a station in North West Australia however they have a huge desire to increase the profitability of their enterprises.
Ok Gotta go more local fresh seafood beckoning !!!
I am a little caught up trying to catch up with things before next weeks trip to Carnarvon WA for a KLR School. So to save time tonight here is a video for you. I know there are a few closet "Sound of Music "fans out there - Yes I know who you are !! Here is a fun video I found for you.OK back to work, see you tomorrow for Friday Music.
Recently we ran a Low Stress Stockhandling school at Cowra in NSW. Over 30 people attended the 2 days organised by Annabel Chambers on the property she runs with her husband Mike.
I was going to post a picture of me in my golf attire but hey Natalie is a better golfer than me !!
Ok it is now 12 weeks since our story on the weaner sale mob, lets take a look see. Remember our "Golf in Dubai" weaner story in January(if not read it by clicking the link).
Well here we are 12 weeks later so let's take a look where we are in both the old Buy /Sell paradigm and the KLR Sell/Buy paradigm.
Now if you are not yet a KLR Marketing school graduate you may find the discussion a little challenging. If you are a KLR graduate this video below is a great example of how just like the last 2 months, you may find yourself stuck in a trade yet trade your way out of it.
BUY/SELL
January - Bought 360 kg Steers $691 -$1.91c/kgCosts - Frt plus 12 weeks grass $69 (let alone any drench etc) Now owe us 3 months later - $760 Market for 405 Kg (15kg wt gain/ mth) $668 So we HOLD for the production and more money.
SELL/BUY Remember a Diligent KLR Marketer would have kept his money for better times back in January, however what if you only found out about KLR 3 months after the event of buying the weaners.
Sell 405 kg Steer $1.65 /kg - $668/hd Buy 183 Kg Steer $1.62/kg - $297/hd
Less COG $221.61/hd (watch video to see details) Profit $150.18 - 37 % ROC So there you go a 3rd opportunity to turn the trade around & yet you can think - no options !!!
"The world's second biggest motorcycle enduro race"
Orange, NSW was the venue for the Australian 4-Day Enduro (A4DE), an Australian Dirt Bike Championship event.
Ashley & I spent Sunday watching the event which was very exciting if you are into motorbikes, speed and adrenalin.
I have been to a few rodeo's aound the country but never a bike ride. There was a similarity :
"Old motorbike riders are like old bull riders, they dress like a veteran just walk with a limp"
Ashley's friend Scott Thomas was riding in the last event,he had a few challenges including his bike would only start if he pushed it.So he had to start well before the start line.He made good ground passing lot's of riders to come in 12th.
Here is a video of his race for you adrenalin seekers.

Tomorrow we will revisit out Weaner trade "Golf in Dubai", 3 months into the trade.
During his 50 years in show business, Campbell has released more than 70 albums. He has sold 45 million records and racked up 12 RIAA Gold albums, 4 Platinum albums and 1 Double-Platinum album.
Of his 75 trips up the charts, 27 landed in the Top 10. Campbell was hand-picked by actor John Wayne to play alongside him in the 1969 film True Grit, which gave Campbell a Golden Globe nomination for Most Promising Newcomer, and gave Wayne his only Academy Award.
Campbell sang and had a hit with the title song (by the same name) which was nominated for an Academy Award. He performed it live at that year's Academy Awards Show. In 2005, Campbell was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Here is a clip with Glen singing that song From "True Grit"

The Sky is Falling- The sky is falling - sound familiar ?
Are you like me sick of the negative, roller coaster stories being pumped out by the media around the world.
The fact is we may have never had it so good and opportunities abound all around us.
Interest rates are lower than they have been, fuel has dropped on last year, Au$ is lower than last year.
Sure some people are doing it tough and there are things that could be improved, however we should always keep that in perspective.
I see some actors are having to put their private jet away and catch cattle class flights.
Today I chatted with someone from west Africa on skype, they can barely get by,they do not even have a local supermarket.
Things will happen around you - however it is the emotion you put to the challenge not the challenge(or problem) itself.
Something I learnt this week is when you say
"I am doing xyz and this will be the outcome"
add a tag line
'or it won't"
This removes any emotion you might have created about the outcome you were expecting- try it, it works !!
Brian Wong is somebody who's work I have followed for a while, created a short video to paint the picture of what is going on out there- here is an exert from his blog and the video :
"It’s a video that shows us what we can learn from the original “Chicken Little” story from Walt Disney (1947). I don’t know about you but I’m sick and tired of the media dishing out negative energy, and hence I decided to create this video to hopefully put some positive energy back into our world. Hope you enjoy it. " - Brian Wong

Well I hope the Easter bunny found you and your family.I had plans for my blog today but Terry Lindsay just sent me an email with an awesome video. Watch this video and if you are not TOUCHED, MOVED AND INSPIRED by the end, check your pulse - you are probably dead !!
Easter is always a great family time, people go camping or spend a few days having time with family. One of the things we always did was an Easter Egg hunt where ever we were over easter - on the river fishing, camping in the bush or staying with friends.Ashley is nearly 21 but she has such fond memory's of doing this with her cousins and friends she said "Are we having an Easter egg Treasure hunt this Easter ?"
The simple things can sometimes be the best things,so however you are spending your weekend over Easter make sure you take time to have some fun and create some sort of game/treasure hunt for the children in your life - they will love it. I remember at Rod and Isobel's one year I treked up the hill to plant all the eggs over a 2 km treasure map.Now that kept the kids busy for the afternoon.
Anyway we at the REES Family wish you all a Happy,Safe Easter.
Just arrived home from a great Low Stress Stockhandling school at Cowra where 30 people spent 2 days learning how to work both sheep and cattle.Off to bed but here is something to make you think ?
You would expect a nation like Australia to attract highly educated & articulated politician's.
I mean we start our education very young, in fact probably having to read in front of the class in Kindergarten.
Jason Wood our Federal Member for La Trobe,Shadow Parliamentry Secretary for Justice & Public Security shows how to take a proffessional approach to debating policy.(not)
Checking out his website he is probably an all round good guy who really muffed it in front of a camera, but hey they put themselves out there for us to shoot down.
If Video Stop/Starts, press pause and let it load.
I'm off to the Low Stress Stockhandling school in Cowra.
Biography Early years Emmylou Harris was the daughter of a career military father, a Marine Corps officer who was reported missing in action in Korea in 1952 and spent ten months as a prisoner of war.
I once, as I do wandered through a book store looking for a book to read when I came upon a book called "Control You Own Destiny or Someone Else Will" - I never bought the book but I remind myself daily the title of that book. Being stuck is one thing but becoming comfortable being in that position leaves you vulnerable to all sorts of things. Take our cow earlier in the week, which brought about our discussion on being stuck.Well a little more information shows we now have an example of being stuck or being able to make the most of an opportunity. You certainly don't want to be in a position to be taken advantage of !! Are you ready to take advantage of the opportunity's that come your way ?
To those non farmers that read my blog (a growing group) this is a normal type thing that happens on a farm. We live with nature every day.
Still on the theme of being stuck - Sometimes we will carry on with life as though it is normal carrying some blemishes from the past. While we are blind to the obvious others around us see everything just like the chair in the photo above.
When the horse first became stuck in the chair I am sure it went nuts but after a while it became normal,so normal that it maybe says to other horses "why haven't you got a chair ?"
After my regular session with my coach last night I realised how difficult it is to leave that chair behind - I mean we have been together for a long time - that is who I am.
My coach helped me to understand an area I was stuck and while it will continue to return at least I will recognise my chair when it shows itself again.
A Diligent KLR Marketer today said "Oh IT & Computers are not my thing" Instead of saying that is fine, I said "I know you are hopeless and don't even try".
A few hours later he emails me "I really heard what you said about me and my racket(story) of not understanding IT stuff,So I am going to have a go"
When we become aware we can then process and make the changes necessary to put our chair where it belongs not around our neck.
So what does this have to do with KLR principles ?
Ask your self what is the chair around your neck that has you accept mediocrity.
Is it not understanding the spreadsheet
Is it my situation is different
Is it I can't find a trade -(whilst all around you others have too many)
Is it it is too much work
I could go on
Persit with something until you really get it and it is working for you.
Jim Lindsay spoke last week about everything he has become successful at took time, persistence and hard work until it became 2nd nature. He then would go and learn something new but never before mastering the first thing.
"Sometimes we stare so long at a door that is closing, that we see too late the one that is open"
