A Goat Catcher from Wanaaring in New York !!

Chris Ferguson and her husband Duncan have a station at Wanaaring NSW, where they have spent the last several years developing their goat enterprise.Chris was awarded a Nuffield scholarship this year and is off studying the industry around the world.
Chris and Duncan are KLR Mastermind members.
Chris is regularly blogging, here is an exerpt from a recent blog :

I’m now in Taos New Mexico with a couple of free days to explore and make my way up to Denver Colorado.
My visit with Bud and Eunice Williams in Bowie Texas was one of those landmarks in my life I guess. I went with them to the Waurika cattle sales in Oklahoma (tick another state off) where they bought about 60 head of cattle that were sent onto Kansas for either calving out or feeding. Bud is 78 this year and as he says, “we got no bisiness doing this, but it gets us outta’ the house.” Got to love them. I visited with them to learn more about keeping our goats in a mob to help with moving paddocks, and when I left, Bud said to remember one thing, “it is possible.” I know he was talking about a whole lot more than working livestock and it was just what I needed to hear at the moment.

When did you last take time to Reflect ?

When did you last take a couple of days to reflect on your life ?
Ros & I took the opportunity to participate in last weeks Campfire Coaching Workshop with Mick Cornish. Whilst we had both done various workshops, we had never been able to attend any at the same time.
It was powerful for us both as a couple and as individuals. I understood that we can get caught in the trap that life is "Good" (well as good as it can be considering the .............)
When I took time to reflect and ask bigger questions of myself I really got that the biggest critic I have is myself. That little voice can get in your head and create all sorts of havok.
Mick showed me how to ask different questions of myself would lead me towards living my truth.
I remember a quote that was in an old school diary that I have always kept :

"Take no notice of a critic, In history there has never been a statue put up to a critic"

Who is your biggest critic ? Are you like me, letting that little voice have too much to say ?

I read something today that caught my attention - it seems when men and women say the same thing it has a different meaning.

When Men say :
Yes they mean Yes Maybe, let me procrastinate a little longer ..... ?
Maybe they mean No (it keeps her off your back though)
No means No Way unless ...............

When Women say :
Yes they mean YES I am doing it with or without you !
Maybe they mean Yes ( I just gotta talk "him" around to it being his idea)
No they mean NO,NO, NO Way.

So what hope have got of communicating effectively, no wonder our children choose the right parent to ask the question with a predictable answer.

How do you fit into this observation ?

Warren Buffets Annual Newsletter

Warren Buffet released his annual report to Shareholders in February.A great insight into the great man and his company Berkshire Hathaway.
Quotes taken from this year’s letter to shareholders;

“All I want to know is where I am going to die, so I’ll never go there.” Charlie Munger (Buffett’s offsider) Warren Buffett;

Our defense has been better than our offense, and that’s likely to continue.

Charlie and I avoid businesses whose future value we can’t evaluate, no matter how exciting their products may be.

At Berkshire we will stick with businesses whose profit picture for decades to come seem reasonably predictable.

Our Goal is to tell you what we would like to know if our positions were reversed.

Tony still tap dances to the office every day, as I do at 79.

If Charlie, I and Ajit (one of Buffett’s managers) are ever in a sinking boat – and you can only save one of us – swim to Ajit.

I subtly indicated I was older and wiser. I was just older. (Referring to one of Buffett’s poor investment decisions).

Berkshire’s ever growing collection of good to great businesses should produce above average, but certainly not spectacular, returns in decades ahead.

We eat our own cooking….no other testimonial means more.

Within a year or so the residential housing problems should largely be behind us.

We backed our view with some purchases, but I should have done far more. Big opportunities come infrequently. When it’s raining gold, reach for buckets, not a thimble.

We’ve put a lot of money to work during the chaos of the last two years. It’s been an ideal period for investing. A client of fear is their best friend.

Never Underestimate the Power of One Person

Never underestimate the effect you can have on one person and a community.2 years ago I held a small LSS school at Brookton,WA. I left thinking I would not hear from any of the participants again.
Little did I know the benefits gained by Kane and Don would develop into something bigger.
Kane had found Low Stress Stockhandling such a big breakthrough for his sheep and lamb business, he decided to host a school in his community.
31 people spent day 1 with us yesterday from mainly the Pingelly rural community and going by the energy of the group we are going to have a great day 2 today.
What difference could these two days make on the Pingelly community ? We'll have to wait and see ?

What can you do to bring something that will beneifit your community ?

Anyhow they turned up at 10.00 am and we are on track with this smart group of farmers.
I just heard someone say "So this is about my performance, not my animals performance"
