FarmReady Reimbursement Grants

Let FarmReady work for you!

Since FarmReady was launched in February, more than 1000 primary producers from all around Australia have attended training with the support of FarmReady – and that’s just the beginning.

FarmReady, part of the Australian Government’s Australia’s Farming Future initiative, assists primary producers to learn skills and strategies to help combat the impacts of climate change. FarmReady focuses on areas such as understanding the implications of climate change, whole-farm planning, and business and risk management.

In the last months of this financial year, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry reminds training providers that individuals who access
FarmReady support for approved training before June 30 will remain eligible for a further $1,500 in funding support in subsequent financial years for the life of the program. So, you should spread the word and let individuals know there is no reason to delay training.

NEW ZEALAND BEATS US AT OUR OWN GAME !!

Winter is closing in here at Bathurst and I was checking out the range of woollen underwear at icebreaker, a product I have come to trust to keep me warm.

What I found was a very interesting company profile and marketing program which includes the ability to type in the BAAA code on your singlet and track it right back to the actual farm it came from. Now you would think it would be Australia doing something like this, but no while our industry fights and blames everybody, this New Zealand company has gone out there and created their brand.

They beat us in the Rugby and I gotta say they are beating us at marketing wool.(There you go Erina,I said it).

After spending time folowing what they have done and the video story's it caused me to set a goal to check out this rugged merino growing area sooner rather than later.

Check out the pathway by clicking on the Photo below (oh and by the way you can only buy through a local retailer)

AIRLINES HAVE DROUGHT TOO !!

Business Class Flight USA to Aust Empty except 1 person.

There are mixed messages out there about the economy, seems some business's are doing well and others not so.This photo was taken last week by a friend travelling business class, he was asstounded to see he was the only one.

Lisa Temple said maybe it is because parliment is sitting this week !!!
Can you beleive they did not even upgrade anyone.
He travels a lot and last year struggled to get a seat in business class.

Rod and I have seen this in the airports where on Friday afternoon in Sydney you could have fired a bullet up the concourse.
So the air travel measure on the economy is Recession or Drought.

See farmers are not the only ones who have a drought or dry time. So if it hasn't rained in your plot where is the opportunity ?

Take a holiday, while the flights are cheaper and spend some time taking a really good look at your life and your business.

FIRST CLASS GRATITUDE

Making a difference is not necessarily about giving large donations of time and money to worthy causes's.I constantly look for ways to show gratitude to the people who serve me each day.
I look for someone who needs a leg up or a lift in the moment.
Bud Williams taught me more than livestock handling and marketing. He would always tell the waitress what a beautiful smile she had, the more cranky the girl the more he would say it until she smiled.
Now a man in his 70's can get away with that,I am not sure I am quite old enough to do so.

In June last year I decided to create something that had been on my mind for a while and teamed up with my good friend Gayle Chivers to create First Class Gratitude Cards.
The idea being you carry them in your wallet or purse and look for opportunities to give them to people who leave an imprint on your life through the service they offer.

We created a website where they can be redeemed for various items online like e-books on personal development. You can also order your own Gratitude Cards from the site for a small fee, proffesionally printed.
Our intention is to donate any funds raised to a cause for children(yet to be decided),however things have held us up a bit but hey we are using them on a daily basis and others are too,so if you want a small token to use to show your gratitude check it out at :
WHO'S LIFE ARE YOU LEAVING AN IMPRINT ON TODAY ?

WHO I AM MAKES A DIFFERENCE !!

Reflecting on my post last night,I noticed I delved into an area where I have very little control and so outside my area of influence. Those of you who know me,this is not where I choose to spend my time.
So I posed the question today : How can I get back in alignment ? What is it I can do every day that makes a difference ? How can I make a difference in someones life today ?
Ask yourself what is it you can do to make a difference to someone's life today, that does not involve money, time, or material items, yet is the greatest gift you could give that person ?
More about that tomorrow but here is a little video to get you going ?

AUSTRALIA STILL RIDES ON THE SHEEPS BACK

THINGS I HEARD ON MY TRAVELS

When we were spending time with Bud Williams in the US he spoke many musings - one being

"Ranchers run sheep long enough to have enough money to buy cattle, then when they run out of money -they buy sheep again until ........"

I was reminded of this having breakfast with someone who said they "ran sheep until they got enough money to buy cattle".

Isn't it funny how even in business we do the things we want not the things we need to do to run our business as profitable as possible.

One couple shared with us last week at the advanced day how well they were going with sheep - they gave examples of being at the sale every week taking in a load to sell and buying a load to take home.

Sell $40 - Buy $5 - a few short weeks later Sell $40 - Buy $5, not exact but these sort of margins. Now even if you did not know your COG this is very profitable.

Now I am not suggesting everyone buys sheep but do not be blocked up with trading one class of animals. If there is not a trade or your business is struggling look for more profitable alternatives.

I have spoken to a couple of people recently about how they are going -one a Queenslander who said "People ask me am I making any more money using this KLR system ? I answer I don't know but I am wealthier and sleep more soundly at night"

Rob a Mastermind member from Canada told me today"People are asking how come I am at the sale every week with a big smile on my face, when they have all sorts of concerns about the market"

Call in and say Hello to Ashley who is holding the KLR fort at Beef 2009 this week.
